Obituary of Richard C. Rotunda

Richard C. “Dick” Rotunda, 91, of Westfield, NY passed away on Thursday afternoon, December 7, 2023 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Dick was born on September 10, 1932 in Westfield, the son of the late Marcello Sr. and Edith (nee Baugher) Rotunda.

He was a lifelong area resident who attended Westfield Academy and Central School. He held many positions at Raynor Chrysler Plymouth in Westfield, retiring as their parts manager after many years of service.

Dick was a longtime member of St. Dominic’s RC Church, his other memberships included the Westfield American Legion Post #327, VFW Post # 6764 (lifetime member), Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #118 (lifetime member) where he received the ultimate and highest Degree bestowed on a member of the Loyal Order of Moose the Pilgrim Degree of Merit. It is a reward given to a Fellow who has given exceptional service for the fraternity, the NRA, the Chautauqua County Auxiliary Police, Chautauqua Lake Snowmobile Club, Westfield Fish & Game Club (life member) and the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree.

Dick wintered in Weekiwachee, Fla. with his family and friends, he was well known for his ability to putter around his house doing small jobs. He loved mornings at McDonald’s with the coffee group solving all the world’s problems. He thoroughly enjoyed playing pull tabs and scratch offs at the clubs, going to the casino and was passionate about dark chocolate. Which he said contributed to his longevity. When you said goodbye to Dick he always replied “Behave yourself”. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his beloved wife Roberta (nee Emory) Rotunda; two loving children, Kenneth (Sarah) Rotunda of Westfield, NY and Ann (Peter) Eckman of Fredonia, NY; a step-daughter, Janet (Gary) Bugbee of Timmonsville, SC; three dear grandchildren, Jacob Eckman, Harrison and Christopher Rotunda.

Dick was the last survivor of six children. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife JoAnn (nee Murphy) Rotunda, a son, Richard Rotunda, two step-sons, Kevin and Daniel Kingsley, two brothers, Donald and Marcello Rotunda Jr., three sisters, Gertrude Barber, Julia Civilett and Isabelle Belcher.

Relatives and friends may call at the Mason Funeral home 37 Clinton St. Westfield, NY on Tuesday, December 12, 2023 from 4-7 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Dominic’s RC Church, 15 Union St, Westfield on Wednesday, Dec. 13th at 11 AM. Please assemble at the church. Interment will follow in the St. James Cemetery.

Dick’s family suggest memorial contributions in his memory be made to Chautauqua Hospice & Palliative Care,20 W. Fairmount Ave. Lakewood, NY 14750 or St. Dominic’s RC Church.
